MEAN WELL UPS Power Supplies with Battery Back Up
ADM stocks a wide range of UPS Power Supplies from MEAN WELL. These power supplies all have the capability to charge batteries, whilst delivering power to the load at the same time.
Should the AC power fail, then the power supply will supply to the load from the charged batteries.
MEAN WELL power supplies which incorporate this UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) functionality are referred to by MEAN WELL as their ‘security series’. To make it easier for you to find these power supplies on our website we prefer to call them UPS power supplies.
MEAN WELL power supplies that feature built in UPS functionality are ideal for use in any application, where you need to trickle charge a battery and have the battery power switch in automatically, should the AC power supply fail for any reason. For example, in a security system.
We have seen in recent times examples of the power grid failing during extreme weather events around Australia, so the number of applications for these power supplies are numerous.
ADM stocks four different series of MEAN WELL power supplies with UPS functionality
Which model you ultimately decide upon will mainly depend on the power output you require, combined with the most convenient form factor for mounting inside your equipment.
Below is an overview of our range of MEAN WELL UPS power supplies:
DIN Rail Power Supply with Battery Back Up
MEAN WELL DIN Rail Mount UPS Power Supplies
MEAN WELL's DIN series UPS power supplies give you the ability to power you load and charge back-up batteries in a convenient DIN rail package.
The range consists of:
Model |
Battery Current (max) |
Output Voltage |
---|---|---|
15.4 A |
24V | |
7.7A | 48V | |
15.4A | 12V | |
7.7A | 24V | |
3.85A | 48V | |
59.34 WATTS | 13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
59.34 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries | |
40.02 WATTS | 13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
40.02 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries |
As well as the primary output, these power supplies have a charger output that you can use in conjunction with an external battery. This allows you to build DC UPS functionality into your application. There is no noticeable drop-out at all. When the power fails, the power supply switches straight across to the battery.
In order to maximise reliability, MEAN WELL has designed these DC UPS power supplies so that no fan is required. Cooling is purely by free air convection, meaning that there are no moving parts to fail whilst working in an ambient operating temperature of -30~+70℃.
All DRC series models can provide you with alarm signals for AC OK and low battery, enabling simple integration with your control system. The type of alarm output differs according to the model selected as per the below table:
Series |
Alarm Signal Output Type |
---|---|
DRS-480 |
Relay contact output |
DRS-240 |

As always MEAN WELL has packed the DRC and DRS series DIN rail power supplies with some really useful protections such as short circuit protection, overload protection and over voltage protection. There is also a battery low cut off and battery reverse polarity protection by fuse.
The output voltages can be easily adjusted from the front panel of the power supply. You also get an efficiency rating of up to 92%.
All models carry UL, CUL, and CB safety certifications and are supplied through ADM, complete with RCM mark.
The MEAN WELL DIN rail UPS power supplies are perfect for use in security systems, emergency lighting systems, alarm systems, DC UPS systems, central monitoring systems and access systems, or any other application where battery back-up of the AC mains supply is essential.
The below diagram shows a typical wiring diagram, for an application that requires battery back-up should the AC mains supply fail.
In this scenario when the AC mains supply is OK the MEAN WELL DRC power supply charges the battery and provides power to the load at the same time. The battery starts to supply power to the load when the AC mains fails.
MEAN WELL PSC Series UPS Power Supply
The key difference between the MEAN WELL PSC series UPS power supplies and the DRC series, is their form factor.
The PSC series is an open frame power supply, which makes it ideal for incorporating into an OEM project that needs UPS functionality, rather than mounting inside a switch board.
JST style pin headers are used for both the AC and DC connections. A connector kit is available from ADM if required.
The compact design makes it the perfect solution if you are tight for space. There is a cover available to protect the electronics and most of the models ADM stocks are supplied in this format.
These are the models ADM stocks within the range:
Series |

Output Voltage |
---|---|---|
160 WATTS | 13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
160 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries) | |

Like the DRC series, the MEAN WELL PSC series UPS power supplies also feature an alarm signal for both ‘AC OK’ and ‘Low Battery.

All models carry CE and CB safety certifications and are supplied through ADM, complete with RCM mark.
MEAN WELL AD Series UPS Power Supply
The AD series is an enclosed type of power supply. These are also designed to be mounted inside a piece of OEM equipment that requires a battery back-up system.
All of the components are ‘enclosed’ within a metal enclosure and connections are made via the terminal blocks on the power supply.
Below are the models that ADM carries in stock:
Part Number |
Description |
---|---|
13.8V / 4A Output, with 13.4V / 0.23A Charging Output |
|
MEAN WELL AD-55B |
27.6V / 4A Output ,with 26.5V / 0.16A Charging Output |
13.8V / 11.5A Output, with 13.8V / 0.5A Charging Output | |
27.6V / 5.5A Output ,with 27.1V / 0.5A Charging Output | |
MEAN WELL AD-155C |
54V / 2.7A Output, with 53.5V / 0.5A Charing Output |
There is no Alarm signal functionality on the MEAN WELL AD series, so these are best suited to applications, where you don’t need to incorporate the power supply into an integrated control system.
Some models of the AD series can be mounted on to a DIN rail using a DIN rail bracket kit, such as the AD-155. This is great if you find that you need more power with battery back-up than the DIN rail mountable DRC-100 can offer you.
Again all models carry CE and CB safety certifications and are supplied through ADM, complete with RCM mark.
MEAN WELL SCP Series UPS Power Supply
With Temperature Compensation Function
Like the AD series, the MEAN WELL SCP series is an enclosed type power supply.
The key feature of the SCP series is the temperature compensation function. As the battery gets warmer, the charging cycle is automatically adjusted accordingly.
Below is a graph that shows how the SCP-35 varies the charging output according to the temperature of the batteries:
ADM stocks these models
Part Number |
Power Output |
Output Voltage |
---|---|---|
74.5 WATTS |
13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
74.5 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries) | |
49.7 WATTS | 13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
49.7 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries) | |
35.9 WATTS | 13.8V (for 12V batteries) | |
38.6 WATTS | 27.6V (for 24V batteries) |
Another great feature of the MEAN WELL SCP series is the remarkably low no load power consumption on some models: Less than 0.75 Watts! Great if you want to keep stand by power consumption to an absolute minimum.
If you would like assistance in determining which MEAN WELL UPS power supply is best suited to add battery back-up functionality your own particular application, then please contact ADM. A member of our expert team will gladly answer any questions you may.
