What is a DC to DC Converter? 

DC to DC converter is an electronic circuit or electromechanical device that transforms a source of direct current (DC) from one voltage level to another. They are used for two different purposes – either to convert, or to stabilise the voltage. 

For conversion purposes, DC to DC converters ensure that the voltage requirement of a particular electronic equipment is met. For example, if a device requires 24V to run in a camping or outdoor setup, a portable DC to DC converter can alter the voltage from the source, like a battery, to provide the 24V needed by the device to run.  

For stabilisation purposes, DC to DC converters (may be referred to as a regulator in this application) guarantee that the voltage stays constant despite the fluctuations, e.g., 11V to 13V. This is particularly helpful when using sensitive equipment that may break due to frequent power variations.
