ADELSystem Temperature Compensated UPS

Temperature Compensated UPS by ADELSystems

Temperature Compensated Uninterruptable Power Supply systems are a smart management method of ensuring your UPS Battery remains responsive and reliable when primary power systems fail.

The ADELSystem CBI series multi-stage charging system, the CBI series can make use of the Temperature Compensation feature with the addition of a temperature probe.

What is Temperature Compensated UPS?

When charged, batteries produce an ambient temperature; rising during charging activities and declining during periods of inactivity.

A temperature-compensated UPS will monitor this ambient temperature during charging. When the temperature is low the rate of charging is increased. If the temperature is too high during charge times, the system will cease charging, ensuring the battery temperature is kept at an optimal level.

This ADELSystem DC UPS ensures your battery remains charged and retains the longevity of the battery, mitigating against over & under-charging degradation.

What does a system require for temperature-compensated UPS?

T he ADELSystem RJTEMP temperature probe is connected to the ADELSystem CBI series DC UPS via the Aux 1 input on the unit, and attaches directly to the exterior of the battery with adhesive .

The CBI series comes standard with pre-defined charging curves for most battery types, ensuring the RJTemp probe can detect the temperature of each battery type.

The CBI series paired with the RJTemp probe can enable fast charging of lead-acid batteries, instead of the typical multi-stage charging option. The RJTemp probe does this by monitoring the battery temperature falling below or rising above a particular threshold. In the instance of the fast-charging feature, if the battery’s temperature falls below –8*C, the CBI will begin a fast-charging phase. Conversely, if the battery reaches +60*C, the system will cease the charging function.

It’s worth noting here the temperature compensation of the CBI series is incompatible with Li-Ion batteries, as lithium-ion batteries have built-in battery management systems to combat overcharging and overtemperature.

Additionally, the RJTemp probe can be connected directly to the ADELSystem DPY351 panel mount controller to monitor the ambient temperature of the environment in which the UPS and other mission-critical infrastructure are installed.

In summary, the temperature-compensated UPS feature of the ADELSystem CBI series ensures a reliable and responsive battery, whilst promoting the longevity of the battery avoiding under and overcharging degradation. Additionally, the pairing of the ADELSystem DPY351 can allow your organisation to view the status of your UPS system remotely. This feature adds another layer to risk mitigation, ensuring mission-critical systems remain responsive when primary power systems fail.

Managing local and remote mission-critical systems can be stressful, and ensuring a reliable and responsive UPS is up to the task of keeping the system online during an outage is paramount. If you have concerns about your system, the ADM team is here to help.
