Medical power supplies must adhere to stringent standards concerning safety, reliability, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). This is particularly important in hospitals and healthcare environments to protect patients and staff. Key requirements include:
- Very low leakage current to prevent electric shocks.
- Very low electromagnetic interference (EMI) to stop the power supply from interfering with other medical devices.
Some open-frame supplies come in ultra-mini sizes, which is perfect for applications where space is tight. These open frames are smaller on average than the size of a credit card (63.5 mm by 45.7 mm wide). While they may not provide as much power as larger supplies, their low-profile design suits smaller applications.
