Power Supplies with Alarm Output for Low Battery
MEAN WELL offers three very cost-effective solutions for anyone who wants a power supply, which can charge a battery and give an alarm if the battery is getting low.
PSC Series Power Supplies with UPS Function
The PSC series power supplies are available with four different power output options as shown in the below table:
Series |
Output Voltages Available |
Power Output |
---|---|---|
PSC-35 |
13.8V (for 12V batteries) |
35.88 Watts |
PSC-60 |
59.34 Watts | |
PSC-100 |
100.05 Watts (13.8V) 100.75 Watts (27.6V) |
|
PSC-160 |
160 Watts |
When you view the data sheet, you will see that the power supplies are available with, or without a cover. Generally speaking, ADM stocks the version with the cover.
You have two alarm signal outputs:
- Battery Low
- AC OK
This makes these power supplies ideal for use in applications, where remote monitoring is required. It could be argued that the Battery Low alarm is essential if the power supply is being used at a remote location.
There is just one thing to note with the PSC series power supplies. Instead of screw terminals they have Molex type connectors. Connector Kits are available from ADM. We recommend you order the connector kit at the same time as the power supply, so that the power supply can be installed as soon as possible.
DRC Series DIN Rail Power Supplies with UPS Function
MEAN WELL’s DRC series DIN rail UPS power supplies share many features with the PSC series. The only real limitation is the number of output power options available.
If you need anything larger than 100 Watts, scroll down to the information on the DR-UPS40 below.
There are three different versions of the DRC series power supplies to choose from:
Series |
Output Voltages Available |
Power Output |
---|---|---|
DRC-40 |
13.8V (for 12V batteries) 27.6V (for 24V batteries) |
40.02 Watts |
DRC-60 |
59.34 Watts | |
DRC-100 |
96.6 Watts |
You still get the two alarm signals:
- Battery Low
- AC OK
The only thing to note here is that whereas the DRC-40 outputs the alarm signals via a TTL open collector, the DRC-60 and DRC-100 use relay contacts.
UPS Battery Charging Control Module
The DUPS40 battery charging control module can be used with any MEAN WELL 24V DIN rail power supply, with an output of up to 40amps. There is also a 20A model available under part number DUPS20. The power supply must be adjusted to 27.6V output in order to properly charge a 24V battery.
Although this does mean that you have to have two units mounted on a DIN rail, it is remarkably cost effective when compared to other integrated solutions on the market.
The DUPS40 gives you a wider range of output alarms:
- DC Bus OK
- Battery Fail
- Battery Discharge
There is also a useful built-in battery test function. This will activate the battery fail output if the test indicates a fault condition.
The functionality offered by the above power supplies and modules are highly desirable in any application where, battery failure needs to be avoided. It also allows you to reduce maintenance costs, by eliminating the need for a technician to travel out to remote sites just to test a battery.
